(Some aspects of nesting biology of Megachile genalis Mor. (Hymenoptera: Apidae).)

Abstract: Only few information about the mode of nesting of the leafcutter bee Megachile genalis Morawitz 1880 is available. This paper describes the nesting behaviour and nest forms of M. genalis. Nesting females were observed under field conditions in Sachsen-Anhalt (Germany), nests were analyzed and host plant species are listed. In contrast to most other known species nests of M. genalis were located in newly grown plant stems. Additional breeding cells were often found in the upper best hole.
